Content is King

How many times have we all heard the phrase, "content is king"? It certainly applies in internet marketing. While we all want to learn how to write great sales copy, the drawback is that many people have a built-in resistance to what comes across as a "hard sell".

The solution? Give them CONTENT (i.e., useful information) that also invites the visitor to purchase something. Ken Evoy is THE master when it comes to this technique.

Besides the fact that content is more subtly persuasive, it has another hidden benefit. We are hearing more and more often these days that the major search engines are changing their algorithms to become more capable of indexing an entire site, and determining for themselves what the "theme" or focus of the site is, regardless of what the site owner tries to tell them through the use of headlines and meta tags. Individual page ranks would then be adjusted in some way to reflect their relevance to the overall site theme.

We are also hearing that the search engines are tending to show preference to larger "content" sites over smaller sites that either lack content, or are obvious sales or affiliate pages, in spite of the fact that a sales page can easily be structured to focus on just one key word or phrase, and tightly optimized for that one key word.

The "themed" mini-site once again seems to offer the best of all worlds. Small and easily created and maintained, it also offers the site owner to focus on a very few key words and thus have a fighting chance for a high search engine ranking. For the visitor, it provides useful informational content, in addition to inviting them to click on a sales or affiliate link. And if the major search engines really do prefer content, the theme site delivers.
